2007 Africa Day Symposium

25 May 2007, U Thant Hall

2007 Africa day Symposium will focus on “The Financial Instruments for the Promotion of Infrastructure, Trade and Investment between Japan and Africa”.

Keynote presentations will feature H.E. Koji Omi, Minister of Finance and Member of the House of Representatives of Japan, H.E. Yoshiro Mori, Former Prime Minister of Japan and Member of the House of Representatives, as well as, Dr Simon N' Guiamba, Special Adviser to the Chairman of the African Union (AU). Perspectives from the Group of Eight (G8) will be presented by the German Embassy given the German Presidency of the G8 in 2007.

The annual Africa Day Symposium will aim in 2007 at highlighting the main policy-actions recently adopted by the Japanese Government and its agencies, namely JICA, JBIC and JETRO for boosting trade and investment flows with Africa; it will further provide an opportunity to reassess the importance of the provision of infrastructure as a pivotal parameter in any strategy to spur sustainable economic growth that could both put Africa on the path of development and poverty reduction.

The symposium will aim to revisit the policy-actions being implemented in Africa in those areas as well as the contribution being sought from bilateral partners including Japan.
