Zero Emissions Symposium 2008:Zero Emissions and Ecosystem- Conservation of Biodiversity by Zero Emissions Activities -

26 November 2008, U Thant Hall

The 21st century is called the “Century of the Environment”. The Kyoto Protocol came into effect in February 2005 and was an important step forward for the international approach toward the issue of global warming. Now, a new issue concerning zero emissions and biodiversity is arising as an indispensable viewpoint in creating a sustainable society.

In this year’s symposium we are taking up the issue of zero emissions closely related to the prevention of global warming and going a step further with the issue of ecosystem (biodiversity).

Civil life and business activities are founded on the ecosystem. Let us be fully aware of this biodiversity and act toward its conservation. The lecturers will speak on how to protect the global environment and will report on the advanced measures now being taken in various sectors.

The Basic Law on Biological Diversity was enacted in May this year, and the Convention on Biological Diversity 10th Conference of Parties (COP10) will be held in Nagoya in the year 2010.
