The 21st century is called the “Century of the Environment”, and is the era in which we must cope with serious environmental problems such as global warming and biodiversity and steer ourselves toward a sustainable society. We, the first generation faced with such global challenges, need to show future generations how we can attain this goal.At this symposium, the representatives from academia, local government, and industry sectors will give us presentations on “zero emissions ? present and future direction”. UNU-ZEF will close its office as of the end of this year in the recognition that all the goals aimed at the formation of UNU-ZEF have now been accomplished.
