Dr. Peter Doherty, recipient of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Medicine, will give the seventh U Thant Distinguished Lecture on Friday, 17 October 2003 from 10:30 am to noon in the U Thant International Conference Hall of the UN House in Tokyo. Dr. Doherty was jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for research that revolutionised the field of immunology, paving the way for breakthroughs in vaccine design and organ transplantation, and opening the door to new ways of understanding our immune system as it relates to certain forms of cancer, multiple sclerosis and diabetes. Dr. Doherty will discuss his views on "Science, Society and the Challenge of the Future".
