13 May 2003, UNU UThant HallBuilding on the success of the previous Africa Day symposiums in Tokyo, the United Nations University (UNU) and the African Diplomatic Corps (ADC) have agreed to establish the Africa Day Symposium as an annual event. In 2003, the symposium sought to bring attention to the importance of infrastructures in achieving development goals, such as sustainable economic growth, trade and regional integration in Africa.The 2003 Africa Day Symposium was intended to generate specific input for the G8 Summit held in Evian (France) in June 2003, and for the Third Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD III) to be held during September/October 2003 in Tokyo.
